Most nursing dosage problems can be solved using THIS one formula. Instead of memorizing multiple confusing methods, focus on ONE consistent system.

STEP 1 — Desired

How much medication did the provider ORDER?

Example:

Order = 500 mg

STEP 2 — Have

What dose is AVAILABLE?

Example:

Tablet available = 250 mg

STEP 3 — Quantity

How many tablets or mL contain the available dose?

Example:

250 mg = 1 tablet

STEP 4 — Solve

500mg/250mg x 1 tablet = 2 tablets
